CentraCare Health System's multipronged approach to medical safety and patient care

CentraCare Health System, a network of hospitals, long-term care facilities and clinics in central Minnesota, faced growing security and safety risks after rapid expansion: aging analog cameras, disparate systems across sites, an outdated access-control setup, and unsecured narcotics cabinets with no way to centrally monitor access — creating patient/staff safety and liability concerns.

Partnering with Pro‑Tec Design, CentraCare implemented Lenel OnGuard IP access control, Milestone XProtect VMS, network cameras (and encoders for legacy analog), drug-cabinet card readers plus pinhole cameras with privacy masking, and centralized monitoring/storage. The result: more than 300 cameras and roughly 108 TB of storage, tighter narcotics control, faster emergency and helipad coordination, improved patient-room and NICU oversight, reduced complaints, and stronger overall safety while maintaining privacy safeguards.
