Ethekwini Hospital & Heart Centre, a 250‑bed, state‑of‑the‑art private hospital in Durban, needed to protect patients, staff, visitors and high‑value equipment across a four‑floor complex and 420 parking bays amid rising local crime. The hospital wanted a discreet but comprehensive security solution to cover entrances, wards, lifts and parking without intrusive “big brother” surveillance.

Intelligent Building deployed an IP video system using 53 Axis network cameras (AXIS 221, 207 and 233D), Milestone XProtect for centralized monitoring, PoE infrastructure and a 4TB storage array retaining 30 days of footage. The system delivers high-quality day/night imaging, license‑plate capture, synchronized audio, real‑time control and incident investigation tools, and is scalable — with expansion to 64 channels and longer archival storage already planned.
