Axis enables Knowsley College to look into an IP-Surveillance future

Knowsley College, a further-education campus north-east of Liverpool with 3,500 full-time students across Kirkby and Roby, faced recurring petty crime in parking areas that its aging analog CCTV couldn’t reliably detect. In 2006 the principal asked the estates team to specify a more comprehensive, future-proof surveillance system to restore confidence among staff, students and parents.

Axis partner MCW Group installed a pure IP solution of 324 Axis network cameras (PoE), backed by HP Proliant servers and Milestone XProtect, delivering 100% coverage of entrances, corridors, plant rooms and parking areas and saving £26,000 on installation. The £500,000 investment supports mobile viewing and future additions like ANPR and facial recognition, can be maintained in-house (avoiding £72,000/yr outsourced costs) and is expected to pay back in under six years.
