A Milestone Systems Case Study
Anchorage School District in Alaska was grappling with rising vandalism, playground fires (each costing about $100,000 to repair), broken windows, equipment theft and student incidents across remote campuses. With a limited budget they began with small, analog DVR camera installs but quickly saw the need for a more scalable, searchable video solution to improve situational awareness and deterrence.
The district evaluated options and, with Anixter’s guidance and Siemens as integrator, migrated to Milestone XProtect IP VMS, deployed a federated architecture and trained staff while expanding to more than 1,200 cameras. The upgrade reduced vandalism, helped identify suspects and recover costs, eliminated widespread window boarding, sped investigations (searches in roughly 10 minutes) and enabled ongoing phased expansion across the district.
