S2 Inc, a Japan-based IT services provider operating data centers in Tohoku, wanted to expand its business by offering optimized, highly available IaaS cloud environments for government, entertainment, and gaming customers. Its challenge was to support traffic spikes, control costs, avoid vendor lock-in, and build a hybrid cloud and BCP-ready infrastructure. Midokura’s MidoNet virtual network, used with SUSE OpenStack Cloud, was part of the solution.

Midokura helped S2 implement a hybrid cloud infrastructure with high-availability links between its Sendai and Akita data centers, along with virtual networking and load-balancing capabilities. The result was a major acceleration in deployment: S2 reduced cloud infrastructure setup from over one year to just three months, and SUSE engineers got a test environment running in just three hours. The new platform also provided stronger stability, better customer usage metering, and a scalable foundation for future growth.
