A Microsoft Teams Case Study
Port Alberni school district, a K–12 district of 12 schools and about 3,500 students on Vancouver Island, faced a lean IT team of three struggling with device security, management, and providing consistent student experiences across Windows 10 devices. To address this, the district adopted Microsoft Teams technologies alongside Microsoft Intune for Education, Office 365, Microsoft School Data Sync and Windows 10 to simplify identity, app access and a BYOD strategy.
By using Microsoft Teams together with Intune for Education and Azure AD, the district standardized device groups, pushed personalized app sets that “follow” students, and enabled students to access learning apps at home or in class; they now manage roughly 150 HP Stream and Lenovo N23 devices and can provision a device in about 15 minutes. The Microsoft Teams–backed solution reduced security and management overhead for the three-person IT team, sped deployment, and gave students seamless access to tools like Teams, OneNote, Minecraft: Education and Office 365 so staff can focus more on teaching.
