A Microsoft Teams Case Study
NTT Communications, a large Japanese telecommunications provider, needed to reconcile strict information security with employee productivity: its long‑standing thin‑client VDI approach protected data but hampered offline and mobile work. To solve this, NTT Communications introduced a “secured PC” strategy in 2018 built on Microsoft technologies — including Microsoft Teams as part of the Microsoft 365/Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise, Windows Defender ATP, BitLocker and Enterprise Mobility + Security — to deliver thick‑client usability with thin‑client–level protections.
The vendor solution paired Windows 10 endpoint defenses (antivirus, BitLocker, Windows Hello, Defender ATP), cloud security and EMS, Office 365 collaboration, secure communication (SSL VPN/cloud proxies) and NTT’s SOC monitoring. With Microsoft Teams and the broader Microsoft 365 stack integrated, the pilot delivered measurable gains: 40% higher productivity on the Tokaido Shinkansen, 24% higher productivity in the office, over 95% positive trial feedback from 100 employees, and a planned rollout to 10,000 users.
