Horten Kommune - Customer Case Study

Horten Kommune, a Norwegian municipality educating more than 3,000 students across primary and lower secondary schools, needed to replace a difficult-to-use legacy LMS and eliminate manual, on-premises processes that taxed teachers and IT staff. To modernize collaboration and automate class rostering and device management they adopted Microsoft Teams as part of an Office 365 rollout, using Microsoft School Data Sync along with Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot and OneNote.

Microsoft Teams, fed by School Data Sync linked to IST Administration, auto-created over 1,000 teams and kept rosters current, driving teacher adoption from below 5% to more than 66% in the first month and over 80% in three months. The Microsoft Teams-centered solution moved files to OneDrive/Teams, reduced local infrastructure and licensing costs, sped device provisioning and redeployment with Intune and Autopilot, and increased student engagement while freeing IT staff for higher‑value work.
