Standard Bank, Africa’s largest financial institution by assets and operating in more than 20 countries, set digitalization at the heart of its strategy to tackle operational friction and paper‑based processes. A key challenge was ATM management: inspectors were completing reams of paperwork for 8,000 ATMs, creating delays, storage costs, and slow responses to issues like vandalism and cleanliness that harmed customer experience.

The bank built a center of excellence using PowerApps, Microsoft Flow, Power BI, and SharePoint to enable business teams to rapidly create solutions—prototyping a mobile ATM‑inspection app in 24 hours. Today 100 inspectors use company phones to capture geotagged photos and reports (5,000–6,000 monthly), routed automatically and visualized in Power BI; response times fell from weeks to hours, paper was eliminated, costs dropped, NPS improved, and more than 50 internal apps have been delivered without external consultants.
