Supporting refugees and reuniting families through the cloud

SOS Children’s Villages International is a large nonprofit operating in 135 countries that cares for especially vulnerable children and families—refugees, persecuted minorities, the disabled and the chronically ill. The organization needed to protect highly sensitive personal data, work reliably in war-torn or low‑infrastructure settings, quickly mobilize staff for emergencies, and maintain donor trust across a dispersed global network.

By adopting Microsoft cloud services (Azure, Office 365, OneDrive, SharePoint and Skype for Business), SOS securely stores and shares beneficiary records, reunites unaccompanied children, runs ICT hubs for refugees, and maintains an e‑roster and a central MediaBox for rapid deployment and consistent communications. The result: safer data handling, faster emergency response and reunification, more efficient collaboration in the field, and greater donor transparency that speeds fundraising (for example, enabling rapid funding for a child’s surgery).
