A Microsoft Project Case Study
Hitachi Vantara, a Hitachi, Ltd. subsidiary with 7,000+ employees serving 10,000 customers and 1,600 partners worldwide, faced fragmented, siloed project-management tools that undermined visibility, standard reporting, and user adoption across its IT PMO. To unify resource capacity, project cost management, demand management, and status reporting, Hitachi Vantara selected Microsoft Project (Microsoft Project Online) as its cloud-based project portfolio management solution.
Using Microsoft Project Online (accelerated by Wicresoft’s Project KickStart and integrated with Microsoft Power BI), Hitachi Vantara standardized templates, automated timesheets and status reporting, and improved capacity forecasting. The rollout delivered measurable impact: more than $500,000 projected annual cost avoidance (33% from reduced timesheet hours, 50% from portfolio status updates), ~2,400 hours saved from timesheet entry, ~7,200 total annual productivity hours after six months live, and 10% of gains from automated capacity reporting.
