Zurich Germany Disrupting the insurance industry with Microsoft AI

Zurich, part of Zurich Insurance Group, needed to modernize its data-driven insurance operations—improving premium accuracy, speeding customer onboarding and automating manual tasks across quotes, accounts and claims. To do this it partnered with Microsoft Power Apps and the broader Microsoft Azure stack (Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks, Azure Machine Learning, Teams and Power Apps) to evolve its enterprise data lake into a self-service data and analytics platform that could deliver reusable AI services.

Microsoft Power Apps helped Zurich implement an MLOps-backed Azure platform and deploy reusable AI services—OCR/LPR models to extract car document data in under four seconds, ID-card extraction workflows, and supervised models that scanned 1,000 cases (55,000 documents / 300,000 pages) to reveal previously unseen recourse. The solution enabled rapid dev→test→prod deployments, faster, more compliant onboarding, automated pre-authorization for claims and a scalable production line for AI services, delivering measurable time savings and improved risk detection.
