TransAlta, a multi‑national power generation and energy trading company, faced a resourcing challenge after shifting from 24x7 to an 8x5 plus callout support model for its wind fleet. To avoid unnecessary and costly technician dispatches while preserving safety and market commitments, TransAlta turned to Microsoft Power Apps to build a decision‑validation tool tailored to its operational needs.

Using Microsoft Power Apps, TransAlta developed the Economic Callouts app, which aggregates 11 internal and external data sources via Azure API apps, uses Azure Active Directory for security, and logs decisions to SharePoint Online. The solution instantly improved dispatch accuracy, paid for its implementation within two weeks through avoided callouts, delivered ongoing net benefits, and has since been adopted by other business groups.
