Metro Bank quickly delivers business efficiency gains without requiring involvement from IT

Metro Bank, a fast-growing UK high-street bank, needed a modern, agile analytics and project time-tracking solution because its core Oracle Financials system was not suitable for analytics (analytics workloads interfered with transactions and BI was slow and costly). To replace a limited InfoPath/SharePoint time system and enable data-driven decisions across the business, Metro Bank adopted Microsoft Power Apps as part of a Microsoft Power Platform and Azure-based stack (including Power BI, Power Automate, Azure SQL Database and SQL Server).

Using Microsoft Power Apps, Metro Bank built an end-to-end time-tracking and resource-management tool in six weeks: Power Apps for data entry, Azure SQL Database and Common Data Service for storage, Power Automate for reminders, and Power BI (via dataflows) for interactive reports and dashboards. After an August 2019 pilot and an October 2019 companywide rollout, Metro Bank now runs 100+ reports in production, captures hourly project time for granular budget control and forecasting, reduced IT dependency and avoided new hardware — giving managers faster, more accurate control over project spend.
