Malteser, a large German aid organization, struggled because its on‑premises private cloud didn’t meet everyday collaboration and mobile‑access needs for staff and the 50,000 volunteers, who resorted to ad‑hoc, often insecure tools. To address this, Malteser augmented its private cloud with Microsoft 365 and adopted tools including Microsoft Power Apps (alongside Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint and Power Automate) to provide a secure, public‑cloud collaboration platform.

Using Microsoft Power Apps and the broader Microsoft 365 suite—deployed with partner SoCura—Malteser rolled out SharePoint, Teams and custom Power Apps/Power Automate solutions (for event coordination and a “shopping helper” app), improving volunteer engagement and remote work. By December 31, 2019, 18,492 Malteser users were on the public cloud versus 8,893 on the private cloud, enabling faster, more efficient work, rapid COVID‑19–era remote adoption, and measurable increases in mobile and volunteer usage.
