Case Study: Johnson Controls achieves scalable, accurate enterprise training and streamlined tracking with Microsoft Power Apps

A Microsoft Power Apps Case Study

Preview of the Johnson Controls Case Study

Johnson Controls exceeds enterprise training expectations with scalable solution built on Power Platform

Johnson Controls, a 136-year-old building-systems leader with more than 100,000 employees, faced a major challenge deploying SEDU—a company-wide training rollout for 20,000 field staff—while relying on siloed, manual tracking (Excel, SharePoint, email) that produced inconsistent reporting, slow roster completion, and unreliable survey responses. To modernize and standardize training deployment and measurement, Johnson Controls turned to Microsoft Power Apps and the broader Power Platform (Power Automate, Power BI) integrated with Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, SQL Server, Azure AD, and SurveyMonkey.

Using Microsoft Power Apps the team built COBALT, an end-to-end, low-code training deployment and tracking system that automates scheduling, provisioning, survey delivery, and reporting. The solution now supports more than 1,200 participants per month, raised on-time survey invites from 80% to 99.99%, cut roster completion lag from 7–10 days to 24 hours, reduced ad-hoc reporting turnaround from 5 days to 1 day, and decreased backend effort from ~4,870 hours to ~1,160 hours (≈2.33 FTEs to 0.5 FTE).
