A Microsoft Power Apps Case Study
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), one of North America’s largest transit systems serving over 15 million people, faced the urgent challenge of monitoring systemwide sanitization and protecting frontline employees during the COVID-19 crisis. Prior to the pandemic the MTA tracked cleaning and staff health on paper or in Excel, but needed real-time, mobile-friendly visibility across roughly 6,500 subway cars and nearly 500 stations to ensure safety and public confidence.
Working with Microsoft Power Apps, the MTA rapidly built mobile Stations Disinfecting and Car Equipment Disinfecting apps (integrated with Power BI, SharePoint Online, and Dynamics 365) plus a back-to-work wellness app and a Microsoft Teams call center. The solution delivered real-time dashboards for leadership, tracked about 300,000 station cleanings and more than 6.2 million car cleanings from March 2020 through January 2021, enabled daily employee health checks and exposure tracking, and provided accountability to officials — helping the MTA protect workers, inform decisions, and restore rider confidence.
