Case Study: Equinor increases process efficiency and cuts costs with Microsoft Power Apps

A Microsoft Power Apps Case Study

Preview of the Equinor Case Study

Forward-thinking energy company embraces Power Platform to increase process efficiency while cutting costs

Equinor, a global energy company of more than 21,000 employees, needed to streamline complex business processes, simplify user interfaces, and enable rapid delivery of enterprise solutions as it shifts toward renewables. To accelerate citizen development while maintaining security and lifecycle governance, Equinor adopted Microsoft Power Apps and the broader Power Platform (including Teams, Power Automate, Power BI and SharePoint Online) and established a Power Platform Center for Enablement to govern low-code development.

Using Microsoft Power Apps and Power Platform, Equinor implemented a CfE based on the Microsoft Center of Excellence Starter Kit, trained citizen developers, and scaled solutions such as the Crane and Lifting app (now 809 users) and the OCTG Dashboard (AI Builder, Dataverse, Power BI, Power Automate). The CfE drove measurable impact: average monthly users of citizen-developed Power Apps rose from 5,000 to 13,000 (Aug 2021–Apr 2022), Equinor now has 247 production apps and 37,000 premium licenses, and the company forecasts more than 500 million NOK in annual value from DigiTEAM and citizen-developer deliveries.
