Case Study: FortisAlberta boosts worker safety and productivity with Microsoft Power Apps

A Microsoft Power Apps Case Study

Preview of the FortisAlberta Case Study

FortisAlberta prioritizes worker safety on Power Platform, boosting productivity and earning key tech award

FortisAlberta, which provides electricity service across 240 communities in Alberta, faced safety and productivity challenges from a paper‑based process for Injury Prevention Plans (IPPs) that produced illegible forms, double data entry, lost records, and poor audio meeting capture. To modernize safety workflows and give field crews real‑time access to IPPs, the company adopted the Microsoft Power Platform—notably Microsoft Power Apps and Power BI—along with Azure services and a .NET backend.

Using Microsoft Power Apps to deliver a mobile canvas app (with Power BI analytics and Azure storage/SQL back end), FortisAlberta replaced paper forms with an online/offline IPP workflow that links audio recordings to plans and provides real‑time visibility to headquarters. The solution, built with partner Fidelity Factory, is used by more than 500 field staff, processes about 120 IPPs daily, eliminated double entry and lost paperwork, improved compliance and productivity, and helped win Canada’s Safest Employers Award for Most Innovative Use of Safety Technology.
