EY teams turn to Microsoft for automation solution that speeds up processes, saves money

Ernst & Young faced a need to move a legacy Excel- and SQL-based VAT tax application to a web-based, big-data solution with a fully automated provisioning and deployment pipeline. To modernize and scale their standardized process, EY worked with Microsoft technologies — including Microsoft Power Apps, Microsoft Dataverse for Teams, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks, and Power BI — to replace slow, complex multi-pipeline deployments that required deep operational knowledge.

The vendor solution combined a Cloud Native Application Bundle (CNAB) approach with Porter and Playwright to bundle provisioning and deployment of 12 Azure services and Microsoft Power Apps components into a single, reusable artifact. With Microsoft Power Apps as part of the platform, EY cut deployment turnaround from one-to-two days to about 2–3 hours, enabled parallelized deployment of thousands of instances overnight, automated manual connector steps, and unlocked potentially millions in cost savings while targeting further reduction to 1–1.5 hours.
