Case Study: Ernst & Young achieves scalable, automated VAT processing and greater efficiency with Microsoft Power Apps

A Microsoft Power Apps Case Study

Preview of the Ernst & Young Case Study

EY teams build a VAT web application to increase efficiency, business value in tax return data

Ernst & Young faced a mounting challenge: a legacy Excel- and SQL-based VAT process that was slow, error-prone, and impossible to scale as clients demanded deeper analytics and near‑real‑time reporting. To modernize VAT reporting, data validation, and visualization across multinational clients, Ernst & Young partnered with Microsoft Power Apps (alongside Microsoft Dataverse for Teams, Azure Databricks and Azure DevOps automation) to reimagine the tool as a web-based, reusable solution.

Using Microsoft Power Apps as the front end and Azure Databricks plus container bundling (CNAB) for a data-mesh–inspired back end on Azure, Ernst & Young deployed an enterprise-grade VAT web application to production in six months and rolled it out globally. The Microsoft Power Apps solution automated manual analytics, reduced deployment duplication through reusable bundles, cut opportunities for human error, freed tax teams to focus on higher‑value advisory work, and is trending toward significant cost and time savings as it scales across thousands of engagements.
