Case Study: Sandvik achieves streamlined factory operations and reduced errors with Microsoft Power Apps

A Microsoft Power Apps Case Study

Preview of the Sandvik Case Study

Engineering firm transforms factory operations with ‘game-changer’ Power Platform solutions

Sandvik, a Stockholm‑based engineering firm, faced inconsistent, manual, error‑prone project configuration and approval processes across its three Control Lines facilities in Brazil, Malaysia, and the US. Critical calculations were done in multiple Excel sheets, drawings were printed and scanned into SharePoint, and part‑number creation depended on manual updates. To address this, Sandvik leveraged Microsoft Power Apps (and other Power Platform services such as Power Automate, SharePoint, Microsoft Stream, Power BI, and Dataverse for Teams) to build a unified solution.

Using Microsoft Power Apps, Sandvik’s Global Process Advisor built the Control Lines Production Mate app that centralizes product structures, automates calculations and unit conversions, assigns project codes/part numbers, and runs approval flows via Power Automate and Outlook. Deployed at all three sites, the solution cut what used to take several days down to a fraction of the time, reduced configuration and order‑entry errors (including duplicate part numbers), and provided a single source of truth for faster, more reliable production decisions. Microsoft Power Apps continues to be the platform for ongoing upgrades, including a move to Dataverse for role‑based access and expanded SCADA/Power BI integration.
