Dow uses vision AI at the edge to boost employee safety and security with Azure

DOW, a global materials-science leader, needed a real-time, scalable solution to detect containment leaks and improve employee safety across its production sites. To meet that challenge the Digital Operations Center combined AI and IoT technologies using Microsoft Power Apps together with Azure services such as Azure Video Analyzer, Azure IoT Edge/Hub, Azure Machine Learning, and Azure Data Factory to build a secure, edge-first monitoring system.

The team deployed an edge vision pipeline that uses Azure Video Analyzer for on-device inference, Azure IoT Edge/Hub to send alerts, Azure Machine Learning for model training, and Microsoft Power Apps to deliver immediate voice, text, email, and app notifications to operators. The Microsoft Power Apps–enabled solution cut development time, reduced latency and bandwidth by processing video at the edge, lowered cloud costs, and scaled quickly—able to be rolled out to thousands of deployments—helping DOW speed operator response and move closer to its goal of zero safety incidents.
