Centrica develops over 800 business solutions with Power Platform

Centrica, a leading energy services provider and the UK’s largest retailer of zero carbon electricity, began using Microsoft Power Apps as part of the Power Platform in Microsoft 365 in 2018 to build simple, transformative apps and reduce reliance on legacy systems. As use spread across the business, Centrica needed a more structured approach to scale development while maintaining governance and consistency.

Microsoft Power Apps helped Centrica establish a Power Platform Center of Excellence and a Power Apps/Power Automate–based tool that detects new maker activity, prompts solution registration, and kicks off assessment and support. The vendor-led approach now supports almost 330 makers and 15,000 users, growing the estate from 300 apps in 2019 to over 800 business solutions and delivering an estimated $4.4 million in development savings over four years; Centrica is also exploring Copilot in Power Apps and Managed Environments to extend capabilities.
