Bank of Khyber leverages Microsoft SQL Enterprise in core banking

Bank of Khyber, a large commercial bank in Pakistan with over 190 branches, needed to modernize a slow-moving IT environment that lacked effective centralized storage and a robust core banking database. To overhaul its core and digital banking, Bank of Khyber engaged Microsoft Power Apps and adopted Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise on Azure alongside Microsoft 365, Power BI and Power Apps to build a more integrated, cloud-ready platform.

Microsoft Power Apps specialists helped implement SQL Server Enterprise on Azure for core banking, migrated internet and digital banking onto the Microsoft platform, and rolled out collaboration and analytics tools. The result: BOK became the first Pakistani bank to run core banking on SQL, achieved about 15–20% lower CapEx and roughly 30% lower OpEx, improved disaster recovery and business continuity (notably during COVID-19), and set the stage for further analytics and workflow automation with Power BI and Power Apps under Microsoft Power Apps’ guidance.
