Automotive technology supplier streamlines manufacturing processes with Power Platform

ZF Group, one of the world’s largest automotive technology suppliers, experienced a rapid surge of citizen development after rolling out Microsoft 365, with employees building productivity and manufacturing apps using Microsoft Power Apps and the broader Microsoft Power Platform. That grassroots adoption created governance, security, and support challenges as demand outpaced the central team’s capacity and premium connectors and sensitive data began to be used outside policy.

Microsoft Power Apps supported ZF’s Implementation of Power Platform (IoP) project by establishing a center of excellence with tiered environments, DLP policies, an automated Spot Assessment intake, on‑demand environment provisioning (via Power Automate), and migration to Dataverse. The approach produced measurable impact: more than 42,000 active Power Platform solutions across the company, discovery of 200,000 tenant activities that informed controls, the 5S Evaluation app increased audits from 4 to 48 per year, and the Production division saved over 1,500 hours of manual data processing annually.
