Auto retailer transforms business processes and creates opportunity with custom app

DriveTime, a large U.S. used-car retailer selling over $2 billion a year, faced an inefficient, intuition-driven vehicle-purchasing process that relied on paper notes and offered little real-time visibility during fast-moving public auctions. To digitize and standardize buying decisions, DriveTime turned to Microsoft Power Apps, using PowerApps alongside Azure SQL Database and Microsoft Flow to rapidly develop a low-code Online Buyer app.

With Microsoft Power Apps, DriveTime launched Online Buyer in about a week, integrating mobile inspection reports, auction feeds, Kelley Blue Book data, and automated workflows to support remote bidding. The solution let buyers monitor multiple auctions at once and purchase three times more vehicles than in-person, created a reusable knowledge repository to lower reconditioning costs, and could save roughly $1.6 million a year if reconditioning costs fall $10 per vehicle.
