Wipfli LLP, a large U.S. accounting and technology consulting firm, needed a better way to track and forecast staffing for 300 consultants across 42 U.S. offices and two in India after Excel and a clunky paid scheduler proved unreliable. The firm adopted Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Project Service Automation and tied it to Azure Active Directory and Azure SQL Database, with reporting delivered via Microsoft Power BI to bring CRM, scheduling, and resource data into one familiar platform.
Using Microsoft Power BI dashboards fed by Project Service Automation, 50 resource and project managers plus all 300 associates can see daily and forecasted workplans, with color-coded booking alerts to prevent overbooking and improve leveling. The Microsoft Power BI-enabled solution increased adoption and scheduling accuracy, sped time-to-revenue, improved client transparency, and saved Wipfli about $60,000 annually while creating new opportunities to offer the service to clients.
