University of North Carolina Greensboro migrates to Microsoft Azure to elevate student and community experiences

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, serving more than 19,000 students and 3,000 employees, needed to decide between costly on‑premises datacenter upgrades and a more scalable platform to improve student, faculty, and community resources. To modernize and support expanded learning opportunities, UNCG turned to Microsoft technologies — including Azure, Surface devices, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Power BI — to evaluate and implement a cloud-first strategy.

UNCG completed a campus‑wide migration to Azure, provisioned 700 Microsoft Surface Laptop Go devices for students lacking equipment, and moved faculty and staff device management to the cloud; Microsoft Power BI and other Microsoft tools supported new data-driven services. The initiative launched the Technology and Data Institute, expanded hands‑on learning and community technology access, and delivered measurable outcomes such as 700 students equipped and cloud management across a campus serving over 19,000 people.
