Universiti Malaysia Sabah - Customer Case Study

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), a major Malaysian public university, faced fragmented, ad hoc apps and legacy IT systems that hindered collaboration, data storage, and productivity. To become a fully digital campus and support student‑centered learning, UMS adopted Microsoft 365 Education—moving to Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive and Teams—and incorporated Microsoft Power BI to drive its data‑driven initiatives.

Working with partner Alfa Connections, UMS completed a rapid migration (100% of email moved by January 2023) and now has around 4,000 staff and more than 20,000 students using Outlook and OneDrive, with Teams enabling longer, more collaborative virtual lessons. Microsoft Power BI is used to organize and analyze institutional data—supporting budget projections and operational decisions—and the combined Microsoft 365 Education suite has measurably improved collaboration, access to files, and decision‑making across the university.
