A Microsoft Power BI Case Study
Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township, a near-downtown Indianapolis district serving more than 15,000 students across 22 schools, struggled to aggregate “soft data” such as behavioral notes, emails, and counselor observations with grades and attendance. These information silos made RTI meetings inefficient and hampered timely interventions. To address this, the district turned to Smartsheet and Microsoft Power BI to centralize and visualize student data.
Using a Smartsheet-based hub and Microsoft Power BI for self-service visualizations, the district deployed the ABAI (Attendance, Behavior, Academics, and Incidents) system across 17 buildings. Staff can now find information more than three times faster, gain a 360-degree view of each student, and spend RTI time on interventions rather than data gathering; the system also sets the stage for predictive analytics and district-wide best practices. Microsoft Power BI’s ease of use and Smartsheet integration were key to these measurable improvements.
