Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation partnered with Microsoft Power BI (leveraging Microsoft Azure services for the Internet of Things and Power BI) and Zerobit to tackle two challenges: build campus IoT competence and create a system to monitor and boost student engagement in real time. The university needed a scalable, cloud-based solution to analyze classroom video and provide actionable insights for administrators and teachers.

The vendor implemented a video-analytics monitoring system that streams classroom cameras to Azure, applies machine-learning models to assess student concentration, and displays results on interactive dashboards (Power BI), giving staff real-time visibility and the ability to respond to drops in engagement. Microsoft Power BI’s solution supported practical student training, connected about 200 cameras to date, and helped raise average student involvement from 77% to 83%, while enabling timely detection of absenteeism and other issues and providing a scalable model for other campuses and organizations.
