The Aga Khan University Hospital- Operating Room Process Automation System

Aga Khan University Hospital, one of Pakistan’s largest teaching hospitals, faced inefficient, nontransparent operating room (OR) processes where patient information was recorded manually and real-time reporting was unavailable. To solve this, the hospital partnered with Microsoft Power BI, deploying Power BI alongside SQL Server 2016 and Windows 10 to create a data-driven OR Process Automation System.

Using Microsoft Power BI, AKUH implemented barcode-based data entry via a Windows 10 universal app and Power BI dashboards that provide real-time monitoring of surgery status (patient entry, in‑procedure, recovery). The solution gave surgeons and managers immediate visibility into OR operations, enabled analytics-driven reporting, and allowed the hospital to optimize workflows and increase OR efficiency and transparency.
