Texas nonprofit leverages data-driven insights for $6.5 billion in education funding

Commit Partnership, a Texas nonprofit that provides data-driven insights to improve educational equity, faced a major challenge: 16 million student assessment records sat unused because the organization lacked the storage, compute, and data-science capacity to analyze them. Working with Microsoft Power BI (and Microsoft Azure services) and partners DataKind, StriveTogether, and AKA Enterprise Solutions, Commit set out to turn that mountain of data into clear, actionable evidence for educators and lawmakers.

The partners built a scalable, privacy-respecting Azure environment (implemented by AKA) and applied data science from DataKind, while Commit used Microsoft Power BI to visualize district-level findings linking third-grade literacy, income, and later student success. Analyzing the 16 million records enabled district one-pagers and advocacy that helped drive passage of House Bill 3—directing $6.5 billion to Texas schools—and established Commit Partnership as a trusted, ongoing source of education data.
