Case Study: Samuel, Son & Co. achieves automated cloud project management and 60% time savings with Microsoft Power BI and Project Online

A Microsoft Power BI Case Study

Preview of the Samuel, Son & Co. Case Study

Steel parts manufacturer overhauls processes, drives business value with Microsoft Project Online

Samuel, Son & Co., a large North American steel products manufacturer, faced rising complexity from dozens of projects spread across more than a dozen ERP systems, aging on‑premises infrastructure, and many manual processes that strained its small IT PMO. To modernize project intake, approvals, and visibility, the company adopted Microsoft Project Online as part of a unified cloud platform alongside Office 365 and the Microsoft Power Platform, including Microsoft Power BI for reporting.

With help from partner Data Outsource, Samuel automated project intake and approvals using Power Automate, integrated ServiceNow with Project Online, and deployed interactive dashboards in Microsoft Power BI to centralize resource visibility and reporting. The new solution eliminated most manual tasks, cut PMO data‑entry time by about 60% (with a projected 75–80% at full adoption), sped approvals and project delivery, and gave stakeholders real‑time insights to prioritize work.
