St. Luke’s Hospital responds to COVID-19 with Microsoft 365 and virtual command centers, improves treatment and saves lives

St. Luke’s University Health Network, a 12-hospital system, faced a rapidly escalating COVID-19 crisis that required faster coordination, real‑time clinical decision‑making, and secure PPE sourcing across 5,200 square miles. To respond, the health network deployed Microsoft Power BI together with Microsoft 365, Teams, and Power Apps to create virtual command centers and data-driven issue tracking.

Using Microsoft Power BI dashboards embedded in Teams and Power Apps (Issue Tracker and PPE Inventory Tracker), St. Luke’s stood up 22 virtual command centers in 48 hours, sourced more than 100,000 masks, generated a 90‑day test‑kit surplus, reduced COVID-19 mortality by an absolute 5 percentage points and intubation rates by 50%, and kept staff infection to just 0.5%—all enabled by the visibility and rapid action Microsoft Power BI provided.
