SPI Marine, an independent shipbroking, agency and logistics provider, needed faster, more accessible business intelligence as its QuickBase core system couldn’t support the ad hoc, real-time reporting ship brokers require. To close that gap they turned to Microsoft Power BI (with Azure, Azure Data Factory and Power BI Embedded implemented by partner CSG Pro) to deliver low-code analytics and search-driven insights for a complex petrochemical and edible oils supply chain.

CSG Pro built a solution that uses Azure Data Factory to pull QuickBase data into an optimized Azure database, a certified Power BI dataset with row-level security, and a Power BI Embedded portal called “The Vault.” Microsoft Power BI’s Q&A search and self-service reports automated previously manual, time-consuming contract performance reporting, let brokers answer voyage questions in seconds, reduced licensing costs via embedding, boosted Power BI adoption, and improved data literacy and prescriptive decision-making across the business.
