Case Study: Smiths Group achieves centralized data visibility and faster, error-free reporting with Microsoft Power BI

A Microsoft Power BI Case Study

Preview of the Smiths Group Case Study

Smiths Group unites data from five global divisions and hundreds of apps with Azure Data Lake Storage

Smiths Group, a UK-based industrial technology firm operating across five divisions and using roughly 800 applications, faced fragmented data and slow, manual reporting that prevented centralized visibility. To solve this, the company implemented a Microsoft solution stack—consolidating data into Azure Data Lake Storage, processing it with Azure Databricks (with ingestion help from Kagool using Velocity and Azure Data Factory), and using Microsoft Power BI for reporting and analytics.

Using Microsoft Power BI to consume the unified data, Smiths Group automated reporting, removed manual errors, and improved data governance and accuracy. The deployment cut report preparation time (saving at least five days per month for key finance reporting), gave employees faster access to trusted insights, and enabled more strategic, data‑driven decisions that can help increase revenue, reduce costs, and minimize risk.
