Case Study: Scientific Drilling International achieves faster reporting and cost savings with Microsoft Power BI

A Microsoft Power BI Case Study

Preview of the Scientific Drilling International Case Study

Scientific Drilling International uses Power BI to optimize operations

Scientific Drilling International, a global drilling-services company tracking 76,000 assets and more than 168 million data points annually, struggled with slow, fragile Excel-based inventory reporting that took about eight hours to produce a single report. To modernize reporting and asset tracking, they turned to Microsoft Power BI (with Microsoft Flow, Office 365, and SharePoint) and partnered with USM Technology to evaluate and implement a scalable solution.

USM Technology helped Scientific Drilling International migrate reporting into Microsoft Power BI in six weeks, building an automated pipeline using Office 365, OneDrive, and Microsoft Flow so reports update and publish without manual saves. The Microsoft Power BI solution cut report generation from one report in eight hours to six reports in 1.5 hours, produced more specialized dashboards for management, and enabled measurable cost avoidance (for example, preventing unnecessary purchases when utilization shows existing assets are under 60% used).
