A Microsoft Power BI Case Study
Ruppiner Kliniken, a leading German hospital, faced the challenge of capturing long-term cardiac data (ECG, blood pressure, activity) outside the clinic so clinicians could detect dangerous changes earlier. Working with a 37-organization consortium to build the digilog “digital companion,” the team used Microsoft Power BI alongside Azure, Azure IoT Hub, and Azure Machine Learning to aggregate wearable and sensor data into clinician- and patient-facing views.
The solution—developed by partner ixto GmbH on Azure—ingests real-time device data via Azure IoT Hub, applies automated analysis with Azure Machine Learning, and presents summative dashboards and KPIs through Microsoft Power BI. A proof-of-concept was completed in three months, and ongoing tests show the platform can deliver real-time monitoring, predictive models, patient-controlled data sharing, and the potential to save lives, lower costs, and extend care to rural or underdeveloped regions.
