The Rural Investments Financing Agency is Romania’s main government body helping farmers access an average of €2 billion yearly in EU rural development funds and serves over 100,000 users. Facing a paper-heavy, error-prone forecasting process that took around ten days to produce spending and payment reports, The Rural Investments Financing Agency turned to Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Azure services to modernize and apply AI-driven forecasting.

Using Microsoft Power BI together with Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Azure Machine Learning and Azure SQL (delivered with partner Genisoft), AFIR automated payment-prediction and reporting workflows. The Microsoft Power BI–powered solution cut report production from ten days to ten minutes, increased forecast accuracy to 80% across 25,000 projects, and materially improved grant management efficiency—helping AFIR better support farmers and raise its European performance.
