Power BI harnessing the potential of data

Worldsmart, headquartered in Adelaide, is Australia’s largest technology provider to independent retailers, managing POS, loyalty and digital marketing for a majority of the independent grocery market. The company faced the challenge of turning the huge volumes of customer and transaction data it collected into usable analytics—retailers knew their symptoms but not the causation—and chose Microsoft Power BI (with Azure and SQL Server components) to give customers accessible, actionable insights.

Worldsmart built a WorldSmart BI platform using Microsoft Power BI as the presentation layer, backed by Azure Stream Analytics, R Server and SQL Server 2016, adding personalized marketing, machine-learning forecasts and automatic reordering. The solution now serves roughly 400 retail customers on Power BI, supports deployments with 200+ stores and 2,000 users in some networks, delivers store-by-store comparisons, real-time budgeting and weather-driven stocking, and has produced measurable improvements in decision making and profitability—transforming Worldsmart into an analytics-led company.
