Case Study: eToro achieves deeper CopyFunds analytics and faster performance insights with Microsoft Power BI

Playing follow the leader can pay big dividends

eToro, a social trading platform with more than 6 million registered traders in 140+ countries, needed to scale its infrastructure, improve reliability, and add machine‑learning capabilities to automate thematic portfolios (CopyFunds). To achieve this it moved its platform to Microsoft Azure and adopted Azure analytics tools—including Microsoft R Server, Azure Machine Learning, Azure HDInsight—and used Microsoft Power BI for simulation and analytics.

Working with Microsoft, eToro implemented machine‑learning CopyFunds that use Spark on Azure HDInsight, Microsoft R Server, and Azure Machine Learning to select and weight top traders, and Microsoft Power BI to present and analyze results. The solution delivered cloud-scale reliability and enabled continuous ML experiments; in 2015 more than 80% of the 124 million copied trades were profitable, and the platform now supports automated portfolio allocation and ongoing performance simulation.
