Plains Midstream Canada Created a Five-Year Roadmap to Do Exactly That

Plains Midstream Canada, a large midstream oil and gas company, needed its cloud move to drive strategic goals—boosting growth and cutting costs—rather than just a technology upgrade. Working with Microsoft Power BI (Microsoft Services, Power BI), PMC created a five-year digital transformation roadmap that ties IT investments directly to business priorities and prioritizes initiatives with the highest ROI.

Microsoft Power BI led a roughly two-year effort (including six months of weekly workshops and about 100 employees from 12 business areas) to build the roadmap and an interactive Power BI dashboard that makes the plan visible and actionable across the organization. Today about 60% of PMC’s annual IT spend aligns to the roadmap (targeting 80%+), and prioritized projects—such as cloud-based predictive analytics for condition-based maintenance—are expected to raise asset availability and deliver significant operational savings while improving revenue and margins.
