Nestlé, the world’s largest food company, needed faster, broader access to data so employees could react quickly to market changes and combine its centralized SAP-based data warehouse with local datasets. To address this, Nestlé adopted Microsoft Power BI alongside Azure technologies (Azure Data Lake Analytics and Azure Machine Learning) to expand self-service BI and reduce reliance on centralized reporting teams.
Microsoft Power BI was rolled out in phases—Power BI Desktop, a 700-user Power BI Pro pilot, then Power BI Premium with three global gateways—integrated with Azure and ML capabilities. The solution delivered consolidated, interactive dashboards (notably Purina marketing dashboards pulling Nielsen, sales, social, and POS data), cut legacy BI silos, and grew to more than 45,000 monthly active users, speeding data-driven decisions and simplifying report sharing across Nestlé.
