Munich Re digitizes life insurance services for faster delivery and data insights

Munich Re, a global leader in reinsurance and life insurance, needed to modernize paper‑based underwriting and claims workflows while protecting sensitive health data in a highly regulated industry. To deliver digital services and data insights to insurers and physicians, Munich Re built its MIRA Digital Suite on Microsoft Azure and incorporated Microsoft Power BI for reporting and analytics.

The solution combined Azure Cosmos DB for case data, Azure SQL Database for analytics, and Microsoft Power BI to anonymize and publish out‑of‑the‑box reports to clients. Deployed as a SaaS offering, MIRA cut physician reporting from about a week to two days (with only five minutes of physician effort), reduced underwriter time by 90%, halved claims management from 200 to 100 days, and enabled clients like Swiss Life to get answers in two weeks instead of six—while giving customers richer, privacy‑preserving insights.
