Moroccan nonprofit fights cancer, now with the help of Power BI

Fondation Lalla Salma, a Moroccan nonprofit founded in 2005 that runs the Houses of Life network supporting cancer patients, struggled with slow, manual reporting (Excel/Word) and an expensive, hard-to-maintain analytics tool that didn’t give timely insights on occupancy, treatment timelines, drug needs, or volunteer deployment. To overcome these challenges the organization adopted Microsoft Power BI to centralize and visualize data from multiple sources and make program performance visible and actionable.

Using Microsoft Power BI, the foundation deployed cloud-based dashboards that are updated daily and pull from databases, spreadsheets, and documents to automate summaries and highlight bottlenecks. As a result staff can plan drug orders by cancer type and protocol, rationalize budgets, optimize volunteer allocation, and accelerate patient transfers—improving stock management and enabling the foundation to treat more patients across its eight residences (6,000–12,000 overnight stays per house annually).
