Microsoft Learning Tools help students thrive in the Louis Riel School Division

Louis Riel School Division faced the challenge of delivering inclusive, effective instruction to 15,500 K–12 students—many in French immersion, with 13% self-identifying as Indigenous and a significant number experiencing cognitive, motor, or language barriers. To support equitable learning, the division partnered with Microsoft Power BI and adopted Microsoft Learning Tools across Office 365 (including Immersive Reader, Dictate, OneNote and Microsoft Translator) to give every student access to assistive reading, writing, and translation technologies.

Microsoft Power BI’s implementation included training, a targeted pilot, and school‑level support to embed Learning Tools into daily instruction and OneNote workflows. The result was rapid, division‑wide uptake: teachers reported measurable student gains, scaled class‑wide use of tools, and real outcomes such as a struggling student producing a five‑page story in an hour and improved participation for non‑English speakers through live translation—helping students like Payton with dyslexia keep up with classwork and contribute more fully.
