Case Study: Danfoss achieves up to 40% reduction in food waste and 30% energy savings with Microsoft Power BI

A Microsoft Power BI Case Study

Preview of the Danfoss Case Study

Manufacturer tracks food storage temperatures with Azure, helps reduce global food waste

Danfoss A/S, a Danish manufacturer of heating and cooling equipment, wanted to modernize its decade‑old IoT temperature‑monitoring service into a scalable SaaS to help grocery retailers reduce energy use and food waste. To do this, Danfoss built Alsense Food Retail on Microsoft Azure (including Azure Event Hubs, Azure Databricks, and Azure SQL Database) and uses Microsoft Power BI for data visualization and front‑end dashboards.

By using Microsoft Power BI as part of the Azure‑based Alsense solution, Danfoss processes telemetry and near‑real‑time alarms from about 1 million devices and 14,000 alarm subscribers, enabling faster responses and actionable insights; customers report up to a 40% reduction in food loss, roughly 30% lower energy costs, up to 35% lower service costs, and as much as an 80% reduction in time spent handling equipment issues, while Danfoss gains global scalability and a new SaaS revenue model.
