MagicOrange, an IT Financial Management and FinOps SaaS company hosted on Azure, needed to give its client SPAR South Africa much clearer, store-level visibility into cloud and IT costs after finding only 12% reserved instance coverage and widespread unallocated or inaccurately tagged expenses. To present complex, granular financial data in an accessible way, MagicOrange used Microsoft Power BI for interactive visualization and reporting of cost and budget information.

Using Microsoft Power BI together with MagicOrange Prism on Azure, MagicOrange deployed four models—VPN Actuals, VPN Current Recoveries, Azure Cloud/Tagging, and General Ledger Actuals vs Budget—to apportion costs per store, improve tagging, and provide monthly budget vs actual monitoring. The solution produced measurable impact: an 85% reduction in unallocated costs, roughly 20% cost optimization, faster analysis and reporting, and stronger cost recovery and budgeting that improved SPAR’s financial transparency and decision-making.
